ADVANCED SUBSIDIARY (AS Level)
This course is suitable for those students who have already passed the GCSE in Modern Greek or have completed at least the Lower Secondary Schools (Gymnasiums) in Greece or Cyprus.
The course which lasts for one academic year prepares the student for the EDEXCEL GCE AS level in Modern Greek. There is no Oral Examination in this subject. Successful completion of this examination will enable the student to proceed for the next stage which is the full GCE “A” level in Modern Greek.
The AS Correspondence course consists of the following:
1. Translations of a number of Exercises from Greek into English.
2. The writing of a number of essays in Modern Greek
3. Responding to a number of questionnaires to indicate understanding.
4. Reading Comprehension
Students are expected to send on a regular basis (if possible once a week) Translations and other Exercises which are set by the Greek Institute.
Advanced Subsidiary Course Fee: £800.00.
The fee includes the following:
Coursework material, books related to the course, marking all the Exercises / Assignments, Past Examination papers etc. In addition the student may contact the Tutor in writing or by e-mail or telephone in the event of some problem or difficulty related to the course. Students for the GCE “A” level are also advised to purchase two excellent Dictionaries: Greek – English (1,300 pages) (£25.00) and English-Greek (£25.00). Both dictionaries are available from the Greek Institute.
