ADVANCED COURSE

The Advanced Course is suitable to those who have passed the GCSE in Modern Greek, or the Intermediate Certificate of the Greek Institute or hold other similar qualifications. The course deals with translations from and into Greek, the writing of essays and involves the study of (a) One Literature text (b) Modern Greek History or History of Modern Cyprus. All the essays are written in Greek. Students are also advised to subscribe to a Greek Weekly Newspaper or Magazine in order to be fully informed about current events in Greece and Cyprus. The course leads to the  Advanced Certificate of the Greek Institute. Please see below, about the books needed for the course.

Books needed for the Advanced Course: Candidates will need (for 2011) the following books: 

1. Modern Greek Translation  

2. English-Greek Translation

3.Εκθέσεις Γυμνασίου (Greek Essay topics)  

4. Anthology of Greek Literature  

5. Ιστορία Νεότερης Ελλάδας or Ιστορία της Νεότερης Κύπρου  

We strongly advise students on the Advanced and Diploma Courses to subscribe to a Greek Weekly Newspaper or to a Weekly Magazine (Annual subscription: £150) in order to be kept informed with current events in Greece and Cyprus. This will help them enrich their knowledge of the Greek language as well as with their writing of Greek essays. Subscriptions to Greek Weekly Newspapers or Magazines can be arranged through the Greek Institute.

Advanced Course Fee: £1000 (The Course Fee includes the cost of all the books, the oral examination and the award of the Advanced Certificate).

Optional: Annual Subscription of Weekly Newspaper / Magazine: £150
